Net Star Faq for Internet Devices

Frequently asked questions about Internet devices

Blackberrys

Can I use a Black Berry device with my Net Star account?

Blackberry devices (not phones) use one of 3 clients desktop, server or web client redirector.

If using pop mail such as NetStar you will need to use the web client redirector.

This works by logging into the blackberry web client redirector website and entering mail client info, then (I need to confirm with blackberry) blackberry then checks your pop account leaving a copy on the pop server and redirects a copy to the device.

The desktop redirector requires software to be loaded first, an always on internet connection, (pretty sure) static ip address, outlook must be open and running on the client computer and of course the computer must always be on.  Blackberry devices and phones can be used.

The server redirector is most costly but reliable, it requires they host exchange (own mail server), install the blackberry enterprise software for exchange and purchase devices as well as licenses.  We are talking several thousands of dollars plus labor to implement.

Last what I have seen with some clients who purchase the phone/blackberry from a cell provider is the cell provider handles the redirection and it is dependent on how the cell provider handles the redirection as to what is required by the client.
